It is really sad to have awards giving out to shameless copy-cats specially at the Dubai Lynx. This won both a silver in Print campaign and a Silver in outdoor campaign!!!

Now is the true test for the Dubai Lynx credibility; will they practice what they preach? see for yourself the rule pertaining to copy-cat and spoof ads posted on Anubis titled “Good Move Dubai Lynx”. http://bloganubis.com/2009/01/22/great-call/

Lateral Thinking: When a low probability line of thought leads to an effective idea, there is a “Eureka” moment and at once the low-probability approach acquires the highest probability. – Edward De Bono. Excerpt from a book by John Townsend & Jacques Favier titled The Creative Manager’s Pocketbook. Page: 2. ISBN: 1-870471-69-5.

A copycat is a person that mimics or repeats the behavior of another. The term is often derogatory, suggesting a lack of originality. The expression may derive from kittens that learned by imitating the behaviors of their mothers. – Wikipedia.

Plagiarism: The abuse of another’s original work by copying it and passing it off as one’s own. As defined in Alastair Campbell book titled The Designer’s Lexicon. Page: 293 ISBN: 0-304-35505-4.

“Imitation is the sincerest form of thievery” excerpt from a book by Capsule titled Design Matters. Page: 84. ISBN -13:978-1-59253-341-1.

Both ideas are a copy and a replica of the original concept for anti mosquito spray
where instead of the sprayed liquid they hade the mosquito net covering the bed .

1- This art direction is a Cliche’ to start off with and that is exactly why it was not entered into the Dubai Lynx even though it was published exactly as it is presented without an awards special edition 😉

2- The i-city campaign preceded both the i-city ramadan single ad and the nujum ads as indicated by the dates on the same blog you referenced http://www.adblogarabia.com/go-places-with-icity/

3- Do not try to distract people from an important conversation with half truths – specially when you have a hidden agenda.

NB. A cliché (from French, klɪ’ʃe) is a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel. – Wikipedia.

So lateral thinking sometimes states that you take a commonplace concept and perfectly reverse it. So ‘you always should stop at a red light’ becomes ‘you always should go at a red light’ or ‘you always should stop at a green light’ or ‘you never should stop at a red light’ or even ‘you always should stop at a red arrow.’ What you’ve successfully done in graphic art is the very essence, the epitome of LT. Edward De Bono would be intensely proud!

Best of British luck to you.

Rapt in the feel of your site, by the way. In the famous words of our muscle proud Arnie, “I’ll be back” (if you’ll have me)
    🙂

ANUBIS was a very old god of the ancient Egyptians, universally worshipped throughout the land and became considered the gatekeeper and ruler of the underworld; the “Guardian of the veil“ he was “Lord of the Cleansing Room” and the opener of the roads of the North. “He observed the weighing of the deceased’s heart against the feather of Maat [Truth] and reported his findings to the jury of the gods.
